Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) has unveiled its full program for its 73rd edition, and music fans are spoiled for choice.

Running 7–24 August across Melbourne, regional Victoria and online, MIFF 2025 will feature over 275 works, with a standout Music on Film section plus special live score events and big-name music docos.

Among this year’s biggest draws is the world premiere of Jimmy Barnes: Working Class Man, Andrew Farrell’s in-depth follow-up to 2018’s Working Class Boy. It promises unprecedented access to the Cold Chisel frontman, charting Barnes’ rise from Glasgow’s tenements to Aussie stadiums.

Other Music on Film highlights include Alex Ross Perry’s Pavements, a meta-documentary on the iconic ’90s indie rockers starring Joe Keery (Stranger Things) as Stephen Malkmus, Move Ya Body: The Birth of House, tracing Chicago’s underground dance revolution, and It’s Never Over, Jeff Buckley, Amy Berg’s exploration of the late singer’s legacy.

Sound and Screen events this year are equally enticing, with Julia Holter performing a live score to Dreyer’s 1928 classic The Passion of Joan of Arc, and Parasite Live in Concert, where composer Jung Jae-il will conduct Orchestra Victoria as Bong Joon-ho’s Oscar winner plays on the big screen.

Beyond the music slate, MIFF 2025 will open with Mary Bronstein’s If I Had Legs I’d Kick You starring Rose Byrne, and the jam-packed program features new films from Kristen Stewart, Kelly Reichardt, Richard Linklater and more.

The festival runs August 7–24th in Melbourne cinemas, with regional and online screenings through to August 31st.
