After a period of reflection and sonic exploration, Mansionair have announced their third studio album Some Kind of Alchemy, set for release on October 10th via Sony Music Australia. To mark the occasion, the band have shared the album’s final track, the sprawling and emotive single “ATLAS,” out today.
The album arrives following the 2022 release of Happiness, Guaranteed, and sees the trio returning to the electronic roots that first defined their identity, while expanding into a more nuanced and emotionally resonant space. Written in the wake of that last tour cycle, Some Kind of Alchemy is described as a record built on connection — between people, places and the intangible forces that bind us.
“The whole album is based on how we are in relationship to other people; other places,” the band explain. “We very rarely exist in isolation.”
Lead single “ATLAS,” which closes the album, encapsulates that message with cinematic scale. Clocking in at just under seven minutes, it’s a euphoric yet introspective track that oscillates between ambient stillness and pulsing urgency. Synths swell and collapse under whispered vocals before building into a cathartic drop that feels both intimate and communal — a sonic metaphor for losing yourself in movement, or finding home in someone else.
“‘ATLAS’ is a song about reconnecting to oneself in order to find a sense of place and belonging,” the band add. “It’s about acknowledging our closest relationships are the ones that help us see ourselves in times of being lost.”
Having emerged with viral single “Hold Me Down” and later solidified their reputation with collaborations (ODESZA, RÜFÜS DU SOL), Mansionair have quietly built one of the more compelling catalogues in modern Australian music. With over 500 million global streams and two ARIA nominations, their sound has always been built around contrast: minimalism versus maximalism, emotion versus atmosphere, restraint versus release.
With Some Kind of Alchemy, they appear poised to bridge those polarities more elegantly than ever.
