Lorde has opened up about her forthcoming fourth studio album, revealing her excitement “about what’s coming.”

The singer-songwriter discussed the follow-up to 2021’s Solar Power during a new interview with Ensemble. She explained that she does “a big chunk of work” before actually writing songs.

“It has taken me quite a while [to start working on the album]. I mean, I do just take a long time,” Lorde said. “it’s been super exciting and I feel excited about what’s coming.

And according to Lorde, her fourth album will arrive much sooner post-Solar Power, with her previous album coming four years after 2017’s Melodrama. “It’s always my intention to move as quickly as I fucking can. I don’t want to wait, so take from that what you will,” she said.

Elsewhere in the interview, Lorde recalled the divisive reaction to Solar Power. “Obviously, some people liked it, some people didn’t like it. I think the third album… you do sort of cross over in a way,” she revealed. “You’re not new any more, and also you want maybe different things… I had real things I wanted that I just had to do with [Solar Power], and I feel more clear and calm for having done that.”

This publication positively praised Solar Power. “Her long-awaited third album is smooth and beachy, searching for serenity in anxious times,” Rolling Stone wrote at the time.

Lorde is one week out from the beginning of the New Zealand and Australia legs of her world tour. Beginning with a huge hometown show at Auckland’s TSB Arena on Tuesday, February 21st, she’ll then perform across the two countries over February and March.
Some stellar support artists have been rounded up for the shows, including MUNA and Fazerdaze. More information about Lorde’s upcoming tour is available via Frontier Touring.
