AWOLNATION

The chart-topping rockers who brought us Diamond-certified hit “Sail” – which still holds the record for the most weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart by an independent artist, mind you – is back with another contender.

AWOLNATION‘s “The Best” has already hit the Top 5 at Alternative radio in the US. Now, it’s been enhanced with a very special collaboration care of pop vocal powerhouse Alice Merton. Created and recorded in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, “The Best” is not only proof that proximity and creativity aren’t compulsory bedfellows, but also that beauty can still thrive within a global crisis.

Merton is the 26-year-old German who grew up and Canada, but has had almost as many global addresses as she’s had years lived. Her breakout hit in 2016, “No Roots” (which touches on the aforementioned), hit number two on the official chart in Germany, went to number one at Alternative radio in the US and received global support from mainstream radio stations all across Europe.

However, this reworking of “The Best”, with its bubbling, synthy jibe and harmony parts that turn the lyrics into vivid emotions, is primed to match all that.

“So proud to have [Merton] join me on this song!” shared frontman Aaron Bruno. “I’m glad we found a way to connect even though we are in different parts of the world stuck at home.”

The video is another feast in itself. Featuring Aaron Bruno dancing around a home studio with his AWOLNATION band mates, while Alice Merton oozes cool in a coronavirus-incited different location, the visual accompaniment is a welcome reprieve from what’s currently clogging up news feeds.
