A new album from the Linda Lindas is on the way. On Tuesday, the girl band announced their sophomore LP No Obligation, out Oct. 11, and released its single “All in My Head.”
A press release teases the group experimenting with post-punk, garage rock, power-pop, new wave, and rock en español on the upcoming LP. The new track leans into “the most indie vibes,” band member Lucia de la Garza said in a statement.
“Recording it was really fun, full of lots of dancing in the studio. I wrote ‘All In My Head,’ from the perspective of a book character, which kinda brought us out of our comfort zone,” she added, referencing the lead character in My Year of Rest And Relaxation. “It felt like a break from reality, which we don’t usually find ourselves writing about.”
The album announcement comes just a few days after the Asian and Latinx group — comprising sisters Lucia (guitar) and Mila de la Garza, their cousin Eloise Wong (bass), and their family friend Bela Salazar (guitar) — opened for the Rolling Stones at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. They’re also going on tour with Green Day.
The Linda Lindas released their debut LP Growing Up last April after finding overnight success thanks to a performance of “Racist, Sexist Boy” at the Los Angeles Public Library in 2021.
“When we started the band, it wasn’t the intention to be famous,” Lucia told Rolling Stone last year. “We liked playing music and performing music and just doing covers of songs we really loved. It was fun.”
