Real heads know that Lucy Dacus is very good at covers. So good, in fact, that Lady Gaga has praised her recent rendition of “Abracadabra.”

Dacus, fresh off the release of her new album Forever Is a Feeling, recently went on BBC Radio 1 and covered Gaga’s Mayhem hit. Dacus stripped down the shiny pop stunner, supplying her buttery, smoky vocals to a ghostly tempo.

Hearing the cover on the BBC’s TikTok account, Gaga commented, “I LOVE this so much wow.” Alongside a crying emoji, she added that Dacus’ version “captures the purity of the song.”

Screenshotting and posting Gaga’s response, Dacus reacted as well as one might expect. “I’m shaking,” she wrote on the social platform X. She wrote a similar sentiment on her Instagram story: “Help can’t breathe.”

Dacus dropped Forever Is a Feeling, her fourth album, in late March. The new era follows her Grammy-winning debut album with her band boygenius, and her now-classic 2021 record Home Video.

Forever contains the singles “Ankles” (released alongside “Limerence”), “Talk,” and “Best Guess.” For the latter’s video, Dacus embarked on a social media hunt for “Hot Mascs,” and recruited Cara Delevingne, Muna’s Naomi McPherson, Towa Bird, and others for cameos. Though many of the songs were first played in intimate venues and museums, Dacus will embark on an official tour later this month that extends through the summer.

Meanwhile, Gaga will bring her international Mayhem Ball to North America this month, her first arena tour in seven years. Consider this our official plea for the two musicians to collaborate.
