Kylie Minogue is on the verge of making history once again. Her 17th studio album, Tension II, is poised to take the top spot on the Official Albums Chart, potentially earning the Australian pop icon her 10th UK #1 album.
According to the latest chart blast, after just 48 hours of sales, Tension II has shifted over 28,800 chart units across the pond, placing it well ahead of its closest competitor by more than 2:1 on the midweek charts.
If Kylie clinches the top spot, it will mark a monumental achievement for an artist who has been at the forefront of global pop music for nearly four decades.
Kylie’s current success with Tension II follows closely on the heels of her previous album, Tension, which hit #1 in the UK and Australia, and housed the smash hit “Padam Padam,” which cracked the UK top 10 and won an ARIA for best pop release. The track was also nominated for three other ARIA awards: Best Solo Artist, Best Independent Release, and Song of the Year, with the latter decided by public vote.
Not just a smash hit on home soil, “Padam Padam” became a viral sensation and earned Best Pop Dance Recording at the 2024 Grammy Awards, exactly 20 years after she won her first Grammy in 2004 with “Come Into My World.”
Earlier in 2024, she scooped the Global Icon Award at the BRIT Awards, becoming just the second woman to win it following Taylor Swift in 2021, and went on to win the Billboard Women in Music Icon Award.
She also completed her inaugural Las Vegas Residency and signed with United Talent Agency (UTA) for live representation in the U.S. and Canada and acting roles worldwide.
But Kylie’s not the only Australian talent shaking up the UK charts this week. Brisbane dance-pop sensation Confidence Man are making serious waves with their third album, 3AM (LA LA LA), currently eyeing a Top 5 debut on the UK Chart.
While Kylie is once again dominating the UK charts, she continues to shine at home in Australia. Her upcoming Tension Tour, announced last month, has already expanded due to overwhelming demand.
Originally slated to visit major cities including Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Sydney, Kylie has now added new shows in Melbourne, Brisbane, and Sydney to cater to her ever-loyal fanbase. It will mark her biggest tour in 13 years, and she’s promised fans an unforgettable experience:
Tension II, which features collaborations with artists like Diplo and Bebe Rexha, continues Kylie’s remarkable run of success, and the pop icon is showing no signs of slowing down.
Kylie’s 2025 Australian tour kicks off on February 15th at Perth’s RAC Arena and will run through early March, hitting major cities along the way.
