King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard Go Orchestral in an Unmissable Tour This December
It’s been over two years since King Gizzard performed on home soil – now they’re back with their most ambitious live project yet
In Partnership with Sydney Symphony Orchestra
For the first time in their 15-year career, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard are teaming up with a full symphony orchestra for a concert that’s truly out of this world.
This December, the psych-rock band will perform two very special concerts at the Sydney Opera House, alongside 29 classical musicians from the world-class Sydney Symphony Orchestra.
It’s an exciting return to home soil for King Gizzard, and will mark the Australian premiere of their ‘Phantom Island Orchestral Tour’. The concerts will feature orchestral arrangements of fan-favourite songs from the band’s huge catalogue, as well as brand-new material from their highly anticipated 27th album, Phantom Island.
Phantom Island is due out June 13th, a 10-track record that’s been two years in the making. The band has already kicked off the album rollout with a bang, releasing three funky singles – “Phantom Island”, “Deadstick”, and “Grow Wings and Fly”.

“HERE WE GO AGAIN!!!!!!” King Gizzard wrote when announcing the album on Instagram, adding: “A lot of love and time and energy and patience and growth went into this one. Can’t wait to grow wings and fly with all of you.”
The band’s discography is famously unpredictable. Across 26 albums (and counting), they’ve played around with everything from psychedelic and thrash metal to jazz, synth-pop, and folk (sometimes all within the same record).
For this tour, they’re going even further, presenting a full-scale orchestral experience at the Sydney Opera House’s Concert Hall.
Led by conductor and musical director Chad Kelly, the concerts are a wild and wonderful playground for King Gizzard, and a rare crossover moment between one of Australia’s best bands and one of our most iconic classical ensembles. It’s also a chance for fans to hear a different side of the Gizzverse, reworked for strings, brass, and full symphonic sound.

The two performances on December 2nd and 3rd will be the first stops on their national tour, which includes both orchestral and rock ‘n’ roll formats. But the Sydney Opera House performances will surely be a highlight, kicking off the tour and debuting the new album for the first time live in Australia.
Whether you’ve been following King Gizzard since their 2012 debut, 12 Bar Bruise, or only recently stumbled into their wormhole of genre experiments, the Phantom Island orchestral shows with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra are not to be missed.
With just two concerts at the Sydney Opera House before the band head around the country, this is one to get the group chat around and lock in early.
