The ever-prolific King Gizzard & the Lizard have announced their latest release of 2021, announcing their first official remix album, Butterfly 3001.
Announcing the news via social media this morning, the 21-track release (with five exclusive to the digital version) comes almost six months to the day after the release of the band’s 18th studio album, Butterfly 3000, whose tracks are the focus of this remix package.
Set for release in January of 2021, Butterfly 3001 sees King Gizzard’s latest record receiving full makeover from iconic names such as DJ Shadow, the Flaming Lips, and Peaches, alongside Australian artists such as Confidence Man and Mall Grab.
To celebrate the announcement of the record, King Gizzard have also shared two previews of Butterfly 3001, including Peaches’ reworking of “Butterfly 3000” (dubbed “Neu Butterfly 3000”), and The Scientist’s remix of “Shanghai”.
Meanwhile, it was just over a month ago that King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard gave the aforementioned “Shanghai” its live debut while performing at the Play on Victoria concert in their hometown of Melbourne. The headline set also included the debut of new song “Gaia”, though it’s currently unclear when a studio version of that track is set to arrive.
King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard’s Butterfly 3001 is set for release on January 21st, 2022, with pre-orders available now.
