They’re one of the hardest-working bands in the world, and now it seems as though 2021 is off to a flying start for Melbourne’s King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, who have reportedly had news of their forthcoming record leaked over the weekend.

According to a since-deleted listing on the Elusive Disc webstore, King Gizzard are on track to release their 17th studio album, L.W., on February 26th.

A statement on the store’s page described the album as both “a standalone work and a companion piece to 2020 predecessor K.G.,” and note that L.W. “sees the Melbourne-based innovators produce a truly original album.”

“As the band enter their second decade, the creative future of this most 21st century of outfits only promises to be bolder, madder and more imaginative than ever,” it concludes, while the accompanying tracklist notes the opening song is none other than recent single, “If Not Now, Then When?”

As the pre-order statement alludes to, L.W. is ostensibly on track to follow on from the band’s recently-released 16th album, K.G., which in turn was something of a musical follow-up to 2017’s Flying Microtonal Banana.

Of course, while this isn’t the first time news of the band’s forthcoming record has been leaked prematurely, eagle-eyed fans have been expecting this announcement for some time. While the artwork of K.G. seems to indicate that the letters “L.W.” will follow, a recently released shirt from the band features their discography, with the notable inclusion of K.G. and L.W. at the end.

While the band are yet to make an official announcement confirming its release, L.W. is set to kick off the beginning of what is bound to be another massive year for the band. While one new studio album arrived in 2020, King Gizzard also released a massive seven live albums and two compilations, while also launching their own “Bootlegger” platform, which allows fans to launch their own record label.

L.W. tracklist:

1. If Not Now, Then When?
2. O.N.E.
3. Pleura
4. Supreme Ascendancy
5. Static Electricity
6. East West Link
8. Ataraxia
