King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have continued their run of new music in 2020, this time, calling on their loyal fanbase to help accompany their latest track with a music video and/or remix.
Announced overnight, the Melbourne collective announced the arrival of their latest single, “Automation”, directing fans to their website where they can find raw audio and video files to aid in their creation. Closing out their post on social media, the group pledged “allegiance to our A.I. overload”, and thanked Grimes for the idea, who had previously called on fans to create a visual accompaniment for her April single, “You’ll Miss Me When I’m Not Around”.
Despite a year which has prevented touring, the arrival of “Automation” is the fourth single released by King Gizzard this year, following on from the arrival of “Honey”, “Some of Us”, and “Straws in The Wind” in recent months. The group also released their Chunky Shrapnel concert film and soundtrack in April. This followed on from the release of three charity live albums in January, with a fourth being released alongside a collection of demos earlier in October.

Notably, the release of “Automation” also comes alongside reports from the group’s fan community on Reddit, who noted that a new album from the band – simply titled K.G. – had appeared on Apple Music, with a release date of November 20th.
A screenshot of the album’s entry on Apple Music notes that all of the previously-released singles are set to appear on the record, giving credence to the speculation that the band had been working on another microtonal album, serving as a follow-up to Flying Microtonal Banana, which was subtitled Explorations into Microtonal Tuning, Volume 1.
Hints of such a project were found in the comments made by Mackenzie during a Reddit Ask Me Anything session back in April, where the prolific artist hinted towards future recordings being made by the group.
“were (sic) working on a few diff projects atm and not sure which will end up coming out next,” Mackenzie explained. “Some of it is pretty chill, some of it is kinda jazzy, some of it is microtonal. Also messing around with some more polymetric type stuff. I’m excited about it.”
No official confirmation in regards to the album has been released, though a number of since-removed descriptions from retail sites has furthered speculation from fans that an announcement is imminent.
