Kim Gordon has announced her return to Australia.

The iconic musician and visual artist has toured the country multiple times, both with Sonic Youth and as a solo artist.

Gordon will next perform shows in Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, and Melbourne in July, in addition to festival appearances at Unsound Adelaide and Open Frame.

Tickets to Kim Gordon’s Australia tour go on sale to the general public on Thursday, May 2nd at 10am local time. There will also be a pre-sale taking place for the tour (see below).

Gordon will be touring in support of her recently released second solo album The Collective via Matador. The new LP arrived alongside a video for the focus track “Psychedelic Orgasm”, directed by Kim Gordon and musician/filmmaker/producer Vice Cooler. The LP also features earlier singles  “I’m A Man” and “BYE BYE”, which both star Coco Gordon Moore.

The Collective has received high praise from critics, with Rolling Stone stating, “Gordon will turn 71 next month, and she’s made one of the most daring albums of her career. If you want to get it though, you have to turn it up and submit.”

The New York Times adds, “What Gordon has proved in this past decade is that her art, her life, her cool…has never been contingent upon anyone else. With time, and through continued art-making, she has righted her own ship and pointed it once again in the direction of thrillingly uncharted waters.”

Recorded in Gordon’s native Los Angeles, The Collective follows her length debut solo LP, 2019’s No Home Record, which featured the songs “Murdered Out”, “AirBnB”, and “Don’t Play It”.

The LP continued her collaboration with producer Justin Raisen (Lil Yachty, John Cale, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Charli XCX, Yves Tumor), with additional production from Anthony Paul Lopez.

Gordon also dropped a collaborative LP with Loren Connors titled At Issue in 2022. She also released four projects with Body/Head between 2013 and 2018, including The Switch.

Kim Gordon’s The Collective is out now.
