With just one month to go until the release of his forthcoming record, Keith Urban has revealed some of the big names who will feature on the new LP.
Dubbed The Speed of Now Part 1, Urban first announced his 11th studio album back in May, setting September 18th as its release date.
“I liked [the title] because I felt like life was flying by so fast,” Urban told Billboard at the time. “Faster and faster all the time. But music, for me, has always been the place where it slows down and doesn’t even exist.
“I would never have imagined that, in 2020, this album title would take on a whole new meaning and yet somehow still feel incredible relevant.”
While remaining tight-lipped about further details surrounding the record (including if there would be a Part 2 at some point), the four-time Grammy Award winner later revealed the track list for the album, revealing that album opener “Out the Cage” would be a multi-artist collaboration, while “One Too Many” would be a duet, though the artists in question remained a mystery.
Now, Urban has put an end to the speculation, revealing he’s managed to recruit the talents of Breland and Nile Rodgers on “Out the Cage”, while he appears alongside P!nk on “One Too Many”.
“When I collaborate, I’m always looking for that ‘third thing’,” Urban explained of the collaborations. “There’s what I do, there’s what my collaborator does and then there’s this ‘third thing’ that I’m most curious about.
“That’s what interests me the most – when the sum of the parts becomes even more than what I envisioned. That’s what I love so much about it – finding common ground, shaping it and bringing it together.”
Meanwhile, an alternate version of “We Were” is also set to be released, with this new version featuring the song’s co-writer, Eric Church.
Notably, these aren’t the first high-profile collaborations from Urban in recent years, with the artist working alongside Carrie Underwood for 2016’s “The Fighter”, while he teamed up with Julia Michaels for “Coming Home” in 2018, alongside countless other team-ups across his career.
Keith Urban is set to release The Speed of Now Part 1 on September 18th via EMI, with pre-orders available now.
