After bringing the rodeo to Wellington’s Homegrown last month, Kaylee Bell returns with a new country single.
The Canterbury-born singer-songwriter channels her powerful vocals into a Shania Twain-inspired track, asking the age-old question, “When’s the ring coming?”—or, as she puts it, “If you wanna call me baby, maybe put a ring on it.”
The track was created in New York with writers Zach Zadek (Tate McRae, Dasha, FLETCHER, Lauv) and Michel Heyeka, and produced by Tom Jordan, formerly of Australian duo Seaforth.
“I wanted this song to feel like a total moment—big energy, big hooks, and just pure fun,” Bell says. “Tom and I had a blast writing it, and it’s that perfect mix of playful and powerful.”
The track also comes with an official music video, packed with pink balloons, roses, and glittering chandeliers, which you can watch below.
“Ring on It” follows last November’s “Cowboy Up”, another confident track where Bell challenges a man to either step up or step aside.
It’s her first releases since the Nights Like This album, which landed on Rolling Stone AU/NZ’s Best New Zealand Albums of 2024 list.
Bell, also featured in our Future of Music series, has already made a major mark in the US. With a CMA Global Award and Billboard Country Chart success, Nights Like This capped off a breakout year for her.
“After winning the Toyota Star Maker award in Australia in 2013 (making her the first New Zealand-born artist to win since the one and only Keith Urban in 1990), Bell has taken her time to get to the top. Now she’s here, don’t expect her to leave anytime soon,” we wrote.
In 2023, she supported Ed Sheeran on his New Zealand tour, won the CMA Award for Global Country Artist, and saw her single “Boots ‘N All” hit the Top 20 on New Zealand pop radio. Bell also toured solo in Australia and New Zealand. 2024 was equally busy, with Bell opening for Kane Brown on his Australasian tour and appearing on The Wiggles’ country album alongside Dolly Parton, Orville Peck, and more.
Looking ahead to 2025, Bell is entering a new chapter as both an artist and a mother. After spending time in Nashville and working with Tom Jordan, her fresh creativity is fueling new music. “Pregnancy sparked a fresh wave of creativity, and now, as she balances life with a newborn, she’s more inspired than ever,” reads the press statement. “With new music on the way, 2025 is set to be her biggest year yet.”
Kaylee Bell’s “Ring on It” is out now.
