Despite initial concerns over Karan Aujla’s Australian tour being cancelled after visa issues, the Punjabi superstar’s upcoming shows appear to be moving ahead as planned.
Per news.com.au, questions were raised over the fate of Aujla’s P-Pop Culture tour this week, after a delay with his Australian visa forced the postponement of its opening show in Perth, originally scheduled for tonight (August 13th).
“Perth I’m very sorry to say we are rescheduling Thursday’s show due to delays with the approval of my Australian visa,” Aujla said in on Instagram stories yesterday (August 12th). “I’ve never had visa issues in any country, including last time I toured Australia. Hopefully this will be resolved soon and I’ll be in Adelaide on Sunday. Please hold on to your tickets, I’m doing everything to get the Australian visa approved as soon as possible.”
The Canadian-Indian star’s visa was shelved by the Department of Home Affairs, according to reports, in what his representatives claimed was a case of mistaken identity. Immigration officers allegedly informed Live Nation – who are promoting his tour – that he was a “person of interest”, mistaking Aujla (real name Jaskaran Singh Aujla) for a man named Jaskaran Singh, who was arrested in May 2024 in Ontario on charges of alleged extortion and firearm offences.
Aujla is still scheduled to perform in Adelaide on Sunday, August 16th, followed by two Melbourne shows, Sydney and Brisbane, while the rescheduled Perth show is set to close out the Australian run on Monday, August 24th. While in this part of the world, he’ll also cross the ditch for a New Zealand show at Auckland’s Spark Arena in the same month.
At the time of writing, his tour remains live on Ticketek. The Punjabi star has made light of the situation, posting a meme to his Instagram stories today (August 13th) of men dancing to and celebrating his song “Softly”, with the caption: “Me & my team as soon as I land in Australia.”
