John Prine Cancels 2020 Australian Tour, Bluesfest Appearance Due to Illness

“John Prine has been forced to cancel his upcoming April 2020 shows, following the advice of his doctors regarding an existing hip injury.”

"As always, John is appreciative of his loyal fans and friends all over the world and looks forward to returning to Australia at a future date," Bluesfest organisers explained.

Acclaimed US country musician John Prine will no longer be appearing in Australia this April, cancelling his upcoming appearances due to illness.

Prine made the headlines in 2019 after he was forced to cancel a number of US tour dates after doctors urged him to undergo surgery to insert a stent, having noted “that he has an elevated risk for stroke.”

Though Prine appeared to have recovered well enough to be listed on the initial Bluesfest lineup last August, the 73-year-old has now been forced to bow out of the upcoming dates, just a few weeks before they were set to commence.

Tour promoters Love Police broke the news yesterday, explaining the situation to fans. “With great regret and disappointment, we wish to advise that John Prine has been forced to cancel his upcoming April 2020 shows, following the advice of his doctors regarding an existing hip injury.”

Earlier today, Bluesfest organisers shared their own statement, echoing the previous reasons and confirming that Prine would not be appearing at the festival either.

“As always, John is appreciative of his loyal fans and friends all over the world and looks forward to returning to Australia at a future date,” Bluesfest organisers explained. “We sincerely apologise to fans affected by this cancellation and wish John a speedy recovery.”
