Jimmy Barnes to Play ‘For the Working Class Man’ in Full at Sydney Opera House

Jimmy Barnes is throwing a milestone party for his iconic album For the Working Class Man, and everyone is invited.

The Australian rock icon will perform the album front to back on the steps of the Sydney Opera House Forecourt on Wednesday, December 10th, marking 40 years since its release. The show is part of his national ‘Working Class Man 40th Anniversary Tour’ and will feature very special guest Kate Ceberano.

“For the Working Class Man was such a significant album in my life. I got to make the record with some amazing people, and it really set up the rest of my solo career,” Barnes says. “I’m so excited to be celebrating For the Working Class Man at the Opera House with my dear friend Kate Ceberano. It’s going to be a very special night.”

Released in December 1985, For the Working Class Man went straight to number one, spent seven weeks on top of the charts, and sold more than half a million copies. Packed with hits like “I’d Die to Be With You Tonight”, “Ride the Night Away”, and the unofficial national anthem “Working Class Man”, it cemented Barnes’ solo career away from Cold Chisel.

To mark the anniversary, a special edition of the album arrives November 14th via Mushroom Music, remastered and pressed on hand-poured ‘flame’ vinyl for the first time as a 2LP set. Collectors can also snap up a limited-edition box of coloured 7” singles, including a reworked “Working Class Man” with a ten-minute reflection from Barnes on its iconic music video. CD and cassette editions will also be available.

Ceberano, fresh from her ‘Australian Made’ Tour, will bring her own platinum catalogue plus classics from Cold Chisel, Icehouse, Divinyls, Sia, Bernard Fanning, and Wolfmother.

The ‘Working Class Man 40th Anniversary Tour’ kicks off November 22nd in Geelong before hitting Mount Cotton, the Hunter Valley, Hobart, the Barossa Valley, and the Swan Valley.

Tickets for the Sydney Opera House show go on sale Thursday, August 21st via Sydney Opera House and Ticketmaster, with pre-sales starting Monday, August 18th.
