Kiwi rock aficionados, mark your calendars: legendary Australian singer Jimmy Barnes has officially announced a New Zealand tour, set to kick off this July.
Barnes will head to New Plymouth, Auckland, Christchurch, and Wellington between July 24th and 28th (see full dates below). Tickets go on sale to the general public on Wednesday, April 10th via the musician’s official website.
This tour news will be even more well-received than usual, following Barnes’ recent battle with serious health issues that led to emergency cardiac surgery.
Barnes, the voice that powered the iconic Aussie pub rock band Cold Chisel and later soared in his solo career, is ready to meet his Kiwi fans once again.
“I’m excited about getting back on stage, in front of the band and playing for my Kiwi mates,” Barnes says. His gratitude towards his supporters is palpable: “I really want to thank everyone for their support and good wishes while I was ill. The family were passing on your messages of care and it really lifted my spirits.”
Thankfully, just before the festive season, Barnes was released from hospital, and after a dedicated recovery period, his doctors have given him the green light to return to the stage.
His comeback performance at the Bluesfest was a testament to his enduring spirit. “It was so much fun to get back on stage again that we tore the place apart,” Barnes recalls. “I can’t wait to bring the ‘Hell of a Time’ show to New Zealand so you guys can come and join in on all the fun.”
Barnes’ upcoming tour will celebrate the 30th anniversary of his album, Flesh and Wood.
