Jessica Mauboy Makes a Triumphant Return with The Incandescent ‘Glow’

“‘Glow’ is like my confidence song; It’s my reminder that I’m where I need to be, that I’m just being,” explains Jessica Mauboy, “and that’s okay.”

More than two years on from the release of her first chart-topping album, fans are being invited to witness the rebirth of Jessica Mauboy with the release of “Glow” today.

Her first new single since the release of 2019 album Hilda, “Glow” is equally exactly what a diehard fan would hope to hear from Mauboy, albeit with a refreshing, enchanting sheen that needs to be heard to be truly believed.

Incandescent and exuberant, “Glow” is described as “pop music made divine, magical and mythic”, with the track serving as something of a reintroduction to Mauboy, as evidenced by opening line, “Welcome to my future“. It sees Mauboy looking ahead and embracing what comes next, drawing inspiration from nostalgic textures and the level of confidence that runs deep inside of her.

An all-star track at heart, “Glow” features co-writing with George Maple, while the bold, disco-filtered sound comes courtesy of electronic duo Cosmo’s Midnight. “They’re the key to translating what my life feels like into sounds,” Mauboy says of their influence.

Utilising their trademark sound, Cosmo’s Midnight help Mauboy capture that air of personal nostalgia – including images of watching her mother dance around the kitchen to Donna Summer, Diana Ross, and Cher – while turning into something that is still familiar, yet with a future-focussed lean to it.

“I had all the in-depth thoughts while writing ‘Glow’, but also I just felt sparkly. I felt new. I felt rebooted,” Mauboy explains. “And I wanted it to feel like you’ve known this song forever.

“I got tired of being a ‘yes person’. Mentally, it was self-destructive: my body and my mind were saying, Hey, you gotta really take care of yourself,” she adds.

“‘Glow’ is my confidence song; It’s my reminder that I’m where I need to be, that I’m just being. And that’s okay.”

While information about whether “Glow” is the first taste of a new record from Mauboy remains to be seen, it stands tall as one of the most confidence and self-assured songs we’ve ever heard from her.

Jessica Mauboy’s “Glow” is out now via Warner Music Australia.
