Jess Macc’s latest single is a raw and powerful song.
“Lover” blends rock edge, singer-songwriter intimacy, and a touch of alt-country warmth to capture the tension between fragility and strength in love. Written by Macc and produced by Daniel Natoli, the song is framed through her signature emotive storytelling.
Anchored by expressive, strong vocals and anthemic instrumentation, “Lover” builds a soundscape that feels both vulnerable and unshakable. The song speaks to commitment in the face of uncertainty, a declaration of love that refuses to let go, even when the path ahead is grey.
“‘Lover’ is about holding on through the cracks — it’s about loyalty in love, no matter the circumstance,” Macc says.
Macc’s latest song cements her place as one of Australian music’s foremost storytellers, unafraid to straddle genres and emotions. “Lover” is her third release of 2025 so far, following “Chemistry” and “Troubled Waters”.
“‘Chemistry’ is about that wild, explosive feeling when your brain chemistry is completely rewired by someone—when attraction goes beyond logic, and you’re just caught in the madness of it,” Macc said of that song. “It’s raw, it’s electric, and it’s completely out of your control.”
Macc celebrated her music releases with a stunning Rolling Stone AU/NZ In My Room session in August. Accompanied by her band, she performed her three tracks from the comfort of a bed, sprawled in a relaxed, intimate setting.
