Melbourne-based musician Woodes (Elle Graham) has shared a pair of her gorgeous compositions for the latest edition of Rolling Stone’s ‘In My Room’, a series in which artists perform from home while in quarantine.
This time last month, Woodes was announcing her debut album, with Crystal Ball set to arrive on October 2nd. Coming after two well-received EPs and numerous beloved singles, the new album, is on track to be a major milestone for not only the acclaimed artist’s career, but Aussie music as a whole.
To celebrate the impending release of the record, Woodes invited us into her home studio to share a pair of singles for the ‘In My Room’ series. “You’re in my little home studio,” Woodes says as she welcomes the viewer into her lockdown lair. “I’ve been in here forever, and I’m in Melbourne, so I’m going to be in here another six weeks.”
Kicking things off by giving new single “Euphoria” its live debut, Woodes’ transcendent voice steals the show as delicate chords help give the track its powerful base, and can only help but evoke thoughts of how this will sound once live shows return.
Wrapping up her set with a rendition of “This Is My Year”, Woodes notes that the song didn’t end up being anywhere near as prophetic as it could have been. “We’re now in August 2020, turns out it wasn’t,” she says with an infectious laugh.
A perfect showcase of what makes Woodes one of the most exciting names on the Australian music scene, these two tracks will both appear on Crystal Ball when it releases at the start of October.
