Australian producer Ukiyo has laid down a trio of stripped-back tracks for the latest edition of Rolling Stone’s ‘In My Room’, a series in which artists perform from home while in quarantine.
This year has been a big one for Tim Arnott (better known to music-lovers as Ukiyo), who released his debut, self-titled album just over a week ago. An accomplished record for an artist who has been turning heads for quite some time now, it showcases Arnott’s eclectic influences as he switches between genres, effortlessly introducing styles on a whim, with a number of guest artists helping to round out the record.
With live shows currently a memory in the minds of most artists, Ukiyo is undoubtedly eager to get back to the live stage. However, in keeping with the world as we currently know it, he was kind enough to recruit vocalist Bec to join him at home for a brief three-song set as part of our ‘In My Room’ series.
Kicking things off with “Friends”, the simple keyboard backing gives way to a steady beat which turns the track into a stripped-back, albeit upbeat, bedroom banger. As Bec’s voice performs the vocals usually delivered by JANEVA, the humble nature of the far-too-short set allows the listener to be completely immersed in their renditions, with the intimate setup complementing the tracks in a massive way.
Finishing off the set with “Good Enough” and “Something Like This”, the pair prove that even in a year such as this, live performances haven’t suffered in terms of quality, but rather, they have flourished.
