Melbourne’s RAT!hammock have invited us into the studio for a powerful trio of tracks for the latest instalment of Rolling Stone’s ‘In My Room’, a series in which artists perform from home following a year which has seen live shows become a rarity.
The last few years have been a special one for fans of Australian music, with RAT!hammock emerging to provide a powerful mixture of indie-rock, combining heartfelt lyrics with crushing, immersive instrumentation in a way that can only be accurately described as overpowering.
Having been relentlessly performing live and releasing music over the last few years, the quartet have kicked off this year by inviting us into the lounge room of their Brunswick studio, Taste Police HQ, and dishing out a trio of stunning tunes.
Kicking things off with last year’s Word of The Day”, the group share a rendition of latest single “Easy”, before closing out proceedings with 2019’s “Ghost”, which deserves to be recognised as one of the finest Australian songs of the last couple of years.
Equal parts intimate and expansive, the far-too short set gives fans an indication of just what it’s like to be a fly on the wall of a RAT!hammock studio session, and undoubtedly invokes a little bit of FOMO in the minds of those who have been hanging out to catch the band live once again.
Check out RAT!hammock performance in the player above, or by heading over to Rolling Stone Australia’s Instagram page. In the meantime, their latest double A side single of “Easy” and “Same But a Little Less”, was officially released in November. Meanwhile, the band will also be performing a pair of sold-out shows this week in support of Spacey Jane at the Summer Sounds Festival at Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl.
