Sydney’s PLANET have shrunk down to a duo for the latest edition of Rolling Stone’s ‘In My Room’, a series in which artists perform from home during a year which has seen live shows become a rarity.
If you’ve been keeping an eye on the Aussie music scene over the last few years, then Sydney’s PLANET would undoubtedly be a name that you’ve been taking notice of. Whether it be for their stunning compositions, or their immersive live shows which have seen them support the likes of The Charlatans and Liam Gallagher, it’s hard not to fall in love with all that they do.
Unfortunately, this year has been a difficult one for PLANET as well, with the group forced to cancel a run of shows both in Australia and the UK in support of their Maybe Someday EP earlier this year. With the group set to return to the stage this weekend, they’ve taken to Matty Took’s home studio in Redfern to perform a small acoustic set to show fans what they’ve been missing.
Backed by guitarist Tom Peppitt, and surrounded by an array of slick guitars, the duo format of PLANET kick things off with a rendition of 2018’s “Save.Sold”, before offering up a version of their latest EP’s title track. As smooth, gorgeous vocals are backed with deft instrumentation, it’s impossible not to get lost in the majesty of PLANET’s work.
Closing things off with 2017’s “Aching Dream”, it’s clear that PLANET are a group of musicians who can do absolutely anything they want, except deliver a poor performance.
If you’re eager to see proof of this, PLANET are on track to perform at Sydney’s Factory Theatre on Saturday, December 19th, with tickets on sale now.
Check out PLANET’s performance in the player above, or by heading over to Rolling Stone Australia’s Instagram page. In the meantime, their latest EP, Maybe Someday, was officially released earlier this year.
