UK duo Mr Jukes & Barney Artist have shared a pair of live tracks for the latest instalment of Rolling Stone’s ‘In My Room’, a series in which artists perform from home following a year which has seen live shows become a rarity.
They often say that good things take time, and in the case of Mr Jukes & Barney Artist’s recent collaborative album, that’s an entirely appropriate saying. First adopting the Mr Jukes moniker back in 2017 during his band’s hiatus, Bombay Bicycle Club frontman Jack Steadman unveiled his debut album, God First, which featured collaborations with numerous artists.
One of the names featured on the record was none other than Barney Artist, whose unique approach to music helped make the track “From Golden Stars Comes Silver Dew” one to remember. Bonding over a mutual love of A Tribe Called Quest’s back catalogue, and the shared fondness of modern hip-hop’s ever changing landscape, the pair decided to work together once again, unveiling their debut album, The Locket, earlier this month.
Bolstered by singles such as “Blowin Steam (Open Up Your Mind” and “Check The Pulse”, the record is a slick and stunning listen, with both artists coming together to showcase their wealth of talent on such a mesmerising and powerful album.
Now, Mr Jukes and Barney Artist have donated some of their time to Rolling Stone Australia to share a blistering pair of performances, ripping through the likes of “Gratitude” and their stunning single “Vibrate”. Proving that such an intense and fitting collaboration doesn’t just exist in the studio alone, the live, intimate performance sees the pair playing to each other’s strengths, and delivering something truly special.
