‘In My Room’ With Max Leone

Max Leone shares a trio of stunning compositions, including the majestic “untitled”, for the latest edition of our ‘In My Room’ series.

California-based musician Max Leone has offered up trio of stunning tracks for the latest instalment of Rolling Stone’s ‘In My Room’, a series in which artists perform from home following a year which has seen live shows become a rarity.

He’s been a rising force in the world of music over the last couple of years, and now as Max Leone shares his debut EP today, the stunning artist has showcased three tracks to prove why he’s a name you need to know.

Performing from his room-slash-studio, Leone performs from an area which looks like a music-lover’s playground, complete with vinyl copies of Kid Cudi and Mac Miller albums on the wall, while the bright background gives rise to a multitude of musical equipment, all ready to show off his talent.

Kicking things off with “the craziest thing i’ve ever done”, Leone begins the track with a simplistic keyboard line, before samples and beats come in to accompany his slinky smooth vocals. With soulful hooks and powerful, emotive lyrics, Leone explains just where the track’s inspiration comes from:

“This song is about how we all do crazy things in our lives, but I think something that is often viewed as normal or ordinary is loving someone, and I feel that might be the craziest thing.”

Moving on to the recently-released “untitled”, Leone picks up an acoustic guitar as he explains that, “This song is just kind of a reflection for the past year or so.”

“Just kind of reflecting on all the different emotions and wake-up calls that I think a lot of us had during Coronavirus, and kind of focusing on what I value and what I take for granted and what I don’t want to take for granted.”

As he wraps things up with “Cautious” (a track written during a time when he was isolating himself from people, opportunities, and risks), Leone shows that his compositional and performance skills are truly next level, with slick beats and mesmerising vocals combining to turn his ‘In My Room’ set into a veritable highlight.
