New South Wales artist Joe Mungovan has shared a trio of live tracks for the latest instalment of Rolling Stone’s ‘In My Room’, a series in which artists perform from home following a couple of years year which have seen live shows become a rarity.
If you’ve been following Mungovan’s career in recent years, then you’d likely be aware that all of his hard work has culminated in the release of his debut album, with the stunning A Flower in The Weeds officially arriving last week.
A few years in the making, Mungovan explains that the record was written about his whirlwind long distance connection with “the one that got away” during his 2019 European tour, and the uncertainty that followed in as the events of the past two years began to take hold.
“Unfortunately our time together was cut short when we found out that the pandemic was getting quite serious – the German borders were closing,” he recalled. “We turned the van around and headed back to Sydney to get her on a flight home I returned to the valley and finished writing
“This album is about the time we spent together traveling through Europe and Australia, drinking wine and enjoying life before our plans were turned upside down.”
To celebrate the release of the record, Mungovan has shared a devastatingly-slick ‘In My Room’ session with his band, kicking things off with album openers “Give Me Your Love” and “You and Me”, before closing things out with a stellar rendition of early 2021 single “Lemon + Lime”.
“‘Lemon + Lime’ is a track [I had] been working on for about 6 months,” Mungovan explained of its release back in February. “During the Covid lockdown I was living on a property in Kangaroo Valley. The space provided me with a lot of time to write music and look back on the memories made over the past years of touring and making music.”
With Mungovan’s album out in the world, he’s currently in the midst of a tour of New South Wales which is seeing him perform free shows in cafés as part of his ‘Breakfast With Joe’ tour. Full details are available below.
