‘In My Room’ With Hope D

Hope D shares a stripped-back trio of mesmerising songs for her appearance on Rolling Stone’s ‘In My Room’ series.

Brisbane’s Hope D has stunned us all with a trio of stripped-back tracks for the latest instalment of Rolling Stone’s ‘In My Room’, a series in which artists perform from home following a year which has seen live shows become a rarity.

If you’ve been keeping an eye on the world of Aussie music in recent years, then the name Hope D would come as no surprise to you. Having first burst onto the scene in 2019 with debut single “Swim”, Hope Defteros’ profile (as has the profile of the band which bears her abbreviated moniker) has just continued to rise, with the likes of “Swim” scoring the oft-coveted #69 position in triple j’s Hottest 100 of 2020, and then releasing her Cash Only EP in early February.

Now, with a new EP under her belt, a new video, and a run of shows set to kick off as part of her in-demand national tour of the country, Hope D has somehow found the time to invite us into her bedroom for a stunning performance as part of our ‘In My Room’ series.

Kicking things off with “Miscommunicate”, Hope D lulls us into a false sense of security at first, showcasing a dazzling interplay between sparse acoustic guitar and her impassioned vocals before upping the ante and turning it into an absolutely majestic piece of music.

Fittingly following things up with the explosive “Second” (“It’s about having a very, very hectic night and waking up having to go to work and your heard hurts and your heart hurts and you’re covered in gravy from the night before,” Hope explains), and then closing out proceedings with lead single “Addict”, Hope D almost effortlessly proves herself as one of the fastest-rising names in Australian music, and the very definition of one to watch over the coming year.

Check out Hope D’s performance in the player above, or by heading over to Rolling Stone Australia’s Instagram page. In the meantime, her debut EP, Cash Only, was officially released in early February, with a run of national tour dates set to kick off next week. See below for full details.
