Seminal Australian rockers the Hoodoo Gurus are gearing up to release their new anti-Trump anthem next week, announcing the arrival of forthcoming single “Hung Out To Dry”.

Set to be released on July 24th, the group’s new track showcases the visceral anger and rebellion that helped influence the group’s early work.

Never intended to be released as a standalone single, “Hung Out To Dry” was originally slated to serve as the B-side to the group’s next single, which is set to be released in a few months. Notably, this isn’t the first time such an event has occurred, with 1985’s “Like Wow – Wipeout” originally beginning life as the flipside to “Bittersweet”.

Self-produced and recorded just last month at Harry Vanda’s Hercules Street Studios in Sydney (with engineering and production assistance by Wayne Connolly), the track is also set to be released alongside a new video which was filmed in part at the Bondi Diggers Golf Course.

Both the single and the new clip take aim at US President Donald Trump and his relationship with Vladimir Putin. Appearing on The Project last night, Hoodoo Gurus frontman Dave Faulkner specifically referred to the track as an “I hate you” song to the controversial politician.

“He’s offended us for years and now we’re giving some back,” Faulkner explained. “If he’s looking for songs to play at his rallies he’s welcome to this one!”

Both “Hung Out To Dry” and 2019’s “Answered Prayers” serve as a taste of new material from the group, who are on track to release their first album since 2010’s Purity of Essence early next year. While 2020 was also set to see the group embark on a long-awaited US tour, the band are working on rescheduling these dates for the end of 2021.
