Holy Holy Team up With Melbourne’s Queen P for New Single, ‘Port Rd’

The new Holy Holy single serves as the group’s first new music to emerge from a difficult year, and comes accompanied with east coast tour dates.

Returning with their first taste of new music since 2019’s ARIA-nominated My Own Pool of Light, Aussie outfit Holy Holy have changed pace somewhat, collaborating with Melbourne rapper Queen P to deliver “Port Rd”.

Officially released today, “Port Rd” showcases the continual evolution in the Holy Holy sound, and serves as a rather fitting track to be released in a year such as this. Inspired by a quote from author Arundhati Roy about the coronavirus pandemic, the song focuses on the terrifying-yet-exciting nature of change and what awaits on the other side.

Notably, “Port Rd” also serves as a collaboration, with the group enlisting Melbourne rapper Queen P to add a fresh presence as her slick vocals complement those of Tim Carroll’s.

“I love the energy she brings,” Carroll noted. “I love collaboration. There’s something really nice about a song having multiple characters – in every way; in the texture of the voice, in the personality and in the story. We feel privileged that she’s up for that.”

Truly, “Port Rd” is a product of collaboration, with the track not only featuring a choir of sorts made up of vocals submitted by fans, but the video itself featuring over 300 video snippets from fans of the group.

Working remotely, Carroll and bandmate Oscar Dawson found themselves in a strange position, with the pandemic providing bold opportunities for experimentation and exploration as they tested the limits of what the band could not only do, but also be.

“Our collaboration is an exciting place,” Dawson explains. “We constantly push each other forward. It’s a good back-and-forth to have with someone; we don’t hold each other back.”

“With all things musical, our approach has always been very much led by how the music makes us feel. That’s our compass,” adds Carroll. “As long as the music feels good to us and we enjoy it, then we’re on the right path. We both have a pretty strong sense of that and that’s guided us from the beginning.”

While “Port Rd” is out now, the track also brings with news of an east coast tour from Holy Holy, who will be hitting the road in January and February for a run of limited capacity shows in Sydney, Melbourne, and Queensland.

Holy Holy’s “Port Rd (feat. Queen P)” is out now via Wonderlick Recordings.
