Hockey Dad
Triple j Unearthed High alumni Hockey Dad are all grown up. Led by childhood besties Zach Stephenson and Billy Fleming, the breezy indie rock outfit crashed the ARIA Albums Chart in 2020 with their debut LP Brain Candy, which peaked at #2. They’ve been welcomed with open arms for tours across North America, the UK and Europe, and tread the boards at some of the biggest festivals on the planet, including Britain’s Reading and Leeds.
Their fourth and latest studio album Rebuild Repeat cracked the ARIA top 20, its single “Still Have Room” landed in the triple j Hottest 100, and the lads headed off for a national tour in support, playing Melbourne’s Margaret Court Arena and Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion along the way.
The Grogans
When The Grogans hit the stage at UTS Underground, they’ll do so in peak shape. The garage rock band has just completed a 24-date tour in the U.K. and Europe, playing to their biggest crowds (and a long list of sell-outs) across the region. Mid-year, the trio performed in the US and Canada, supporting Ocean Alley, while festival spots have opened up at Your & Owls (NSW), Wanderer Festival (NSW), NYE on the Hill (VIC), Dauwpop Festival (NL), London Calling (NL), Beast Of A Feast (NZ), NinchFest (VIC), and more.
Rolling Stone House at SXSW Sydney is a launch pad into a run of Australian shows, a celebration of the five-year anniversary of their debut album Just What You Want. Forming in 2016 while in high school, the boys dropped the single “Oh Boy” earlier in the month, a taste of things to come.
Full Flower Moon Band
With a spellbinding blend of grinding blues and rock, Full Flower Moon Band is blooming. Fronted by Kate “Babyshakes” Dillon, Full Flower Moon Band caught the attention of The Black Crowes, opening for the American rock legends on a national tour. Last year saw the release of Diesel Forever, with triple j Unearthed music director Dave Ruby Howe describing “NY-LA” as a track with “a level of sneering, unattainable cool that is hard to fake”.
That bitumen-rough sound blasted out from spots last year at Splendour in the Grass, Yours & Owls Festival, and Dillon was awarded the Grant Mclennan Scholarship. A third studio album, Megaflower, arrived in July 2024.
As previously reported, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers will work the wheels of steel at #RSHouse, doing so on the heels of their first tour of the United States.
“Not to alarm you,” Canberra’s finest assures, “but a Teen Jesus DJ set goes off. We’re talking a plethora of early 2000s hits mixed with some classic indie bops. Think Kesha mixed with The Strokes.”
