Windang duo Hockey Dad are set to hit the road this year, touring around the country in support of their latest album, Brain Candy.
Having released their single “I Missed Out” last year, fans already had a feeling that Hockey Dad were gearing up to release their third studio album at some point in the near future. Just a few weeks ago, the group followed up on all this speculation, announcing that their record Brain Candy would officially release on May 29 through Farmer & The Owl.
Sharing their latest single “Itch” in the process, the pair seemingly indicated that their sessions with John Goodmanson in Seattle had resulted in something a bit more experimental and refreshing for the group.
“It’s definitely the most non-Hockey Dad song we have ever recorded,” Zach Stephenson said of the latest single.
“Itching is the worst feeling you could have sometimes. The idea comes from a person having someone under their skin and constantly invading their thoughts. But for some reason, can’t get enough of it. Can’t get enough of being controlled and held down. It’s kind of saying ‘come on in and keep me captive. I’m all yours’.”
Now, with anticipation for the new record growing, Hockey Dad have unveiled a run of album launch dates for June. Serving as their first Australian dates since the recently-completed Laneway Festival, and their first headline tour since a trek across the Canada late last year, the shows will see them visiting Adelaide, Fremantle, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Sydney over nine days.
Supported by Last Dinosaurs, Boston duo Vundabar, and triple j Unearthed favourites Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers, tickets for these shows are on sale now via the band’s website.
