Hayley Williams Averts Scalpers With Solo Tour Presale Plan: ‘It’s a Broken and Convoluted System’

There will inevitably be someone who spends three or four times more than face value to attend Hayley Williamsupcoming solo tour. They’ll be faced with the choice of either forking over whatever hiked up amount ticket resellers will charge on secondhand sites, or sacrifice their chance to hear “Good Ol’ Days” and “Parachute” live. But Williams has put some preventative measures in place ahead of the tour presale to ensure that those who share this experience are in the minority, rather than part of a larger collective of fans being exploited by scalpers and bots.

“You shouldn’t have to jump through hoops to buy tickets to see the show, but unfortunately, it’s a broken and convoluted system,” Williams shared in a lengthy statement on Instagram. “My team and I are doing everything we can, and I am hopeful that the processes we’ve put into place will get as many tickets into the hands of my fans (at face value) as possible.”

The Hayley Williams at a Bachelorette Party Tour will kick off in North America in March. In partnership with Openstage, a verified fan presale will be hosted with registration open from Monday, Nov. 10, at 10 a.m. ET through Tuesday, Nov. 11, at 10 a.m. ET. The sale will require two-factor authentication with fans verifying both their email address and phone number to gain access using a unique code. It isn’t guaranteed that all verified fans will obtain tickets, but at least their competition in the queue will be each other, rather than bots and scalpers.

“I want to get tickets into the hands of my fans, at a price that is as reasonable as I could get it,” Williams said. “I’ve had countless conversations with my team, and they’ve spent countless hours trying to find the best solution for fans to be able to buy tickets. It’s been tough (to say the least), and unfortunately, there’s just no way to guarantee that zero tickets get scalped. But we’re doing our best.”

If the presale sells out, those who weren’t able to purchase one will have additional, if limited, chances to gain access. In the event that a ticket holder is unable to attend and wants to sell their ticket, resale will be available through a face value ticket exchange. This restricted redistribution method prevents tickets from being resold through Ticketmaster, AXS, and other ticketing platforms for more than their original cost. As an additional precaution, ticket transfers will be disabled in eligible states (sorry New York and Chicago fans), limiting potential instances for tickets to appear on secondary sites like SeatGeek and StubHub.

Williams admits that the approach “won’t be perfect,” but hopes it will be enough to ease some of the anguish around the ticket buying experience. “I can’t wait to be back on the road and see all of your faces,” said the musician, who released her third solo album Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party in August. “We’ll dance, scream, and cry together. Love you all. Take care of yourselves.”
