Harvey Sutherland is back with new music.
The Melbourne producer, DJ and instrumentalist has announced a new album, Debt, due out Friday, October 10th via his own label, Clarity Recordings.
Alongside the album news, Sutherland has shared the lead single, “Body Language,” featuring Julian Hamilton from The Presets.
Sutherland says the track was one of the first written for the album. “I had these chords floating around for a year or so. Played them for Jules during a writing day at his place in Sydney. He found a great melody almost instantly. I kept hearing the words ‘reading your body language’ in his early phrases so we kept pushing at it. I think it’s the singular moment of IRL collaboration on this album — nice to do things old-school with one of the great Australian songwriters.”
Hamilton adds: “I have always been a huge fan of Mike’s music. We spent a couple of days in my studio in Sydney and bashed out a few tracks together…It was super easy and fun – and I can hear that joy in the finished song ‘Body Language’. I am so proud of this track and can’t wait for folks to hear it. Big love Mike!”
Debt is Sutherland’s first full-length album since his 2022 debut, Boy. The new record looks at the cost of making music in the online era and condenses his disco-influenced style into ten tracks of microhouse and funk.
To celebrate, Sutherland will tour Australia with a new live show. Dates include Byron Bay’s Beach Hotel on Friday, November 7th, Brisbane’s La La Land on Saturday, November 8th, Melbourne’s The Night Cat on Friday, November 14th and a Sydney show on Saturday, November 15th (venue TBC). Tickets go on sale at 9am local time on Friday, July 18th.
