Melbourne-based, Perth singer-songwriter Harper Bloom has returned with one of her most affecting tracks to date, sharing the gorgeous “Red Rocket” as her first new single of 2022.

Having been on the scene for a few years now, Harper Bloom has undoubtedly had her profile rise significantly across the last 12 months. Unveiling her Faith, Sex & Skin EP in 2021, Harper closed out last year with the unveiling of “Sydney Road”, an upbeat track written about the titular Melbourne street.

Now, Harper has returned with the mesmerising “Red Rocket”, a track which sees the artist ruminating on finding happiness after losing someone close to you. Working with celebrated producers Steve Schram and David Quested, the powerful blend of piano and ukulele come together to allow a perfect space for Harper to speak about what it means to find positivity in loss.

“A Red Rocket is a symbol of an indent someone has left in your life that you hold onto for comfort,” Harper explains. “This song navigates grief but it’s also a celebration of how lucky we are to have had a chance to know someone so special – no matter how brief that encounter may be.”

Complementing the track’s heartfelt nature, “Red Rocket” also comes accompanied by a music video directed by Matt Wallace and Lawrence Phelan from LP Creative. Opening with gorgeous shots of the Australian countryside, the viewer is soon transported into rural Victoria as they accompany Harper on a nostalgic journey which utilises both Super 8 and digital videography.

“We wanted the music video to reflect the overall mood of the song, rather than tell a narrative-based story,” Harper explains. “Our idea was to head to a beautiful quiet country town and shoot little everyday moments out in the town that you don’t really think about at the time, but are the special moments we all live for. Like a pleasant little encounter with a stranger that you’ll never meet again.”

With many big plans for 2022 (including a second EP and plenty of live shows), this year is undoubtedly shaping up to be a big one for Harper Bloom, so be sure to stay tuned for the countless career highlights still to come.

Harper Bloom’s “Red Rocket” is officially released on Thursday, March 24th.
