Halsey shared a Tumblr post on Tuesday, saying she regretted coming back to music with “Lucky,” after seeing the hateful reaction from many fans.

“My own fans are hands down meaner to me than any other people on the planet,” Halsey wrote. “Not speaking for all of you, of course. But it used to be just a minority that were awful to me and now it seems like a majority have only stuck around to chime in occasionally with their opinion of how much they hate me or how awful I am.”

“It’s hard to want to engage in a space that is completely devoid of any kindness, sympathy, patience; or to be honest human decency,” she continued. “Especially after years of hiding from the interactions for fear that this EXACT thing would happen. I don’t know man.”

Halsey then expressed her regret for coming back to music over the last few months. She marked her return by dropping “The End” in early June. The song detailed her experience being diagnosed with Lupus SLE and a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder and was aimed to be a letter to her fans.

“I almost lost my life. I am not gonna do anything that doesn’t make me happy anymore. I can’t spiritually afford it,” Halsey continued. “When I got sick all I could think about was getting better so I could come back and be a part of THIS again, but I don’t even know what this is anymore and I want to crawl in a hole and I regret coming back.”

After sharing the post, she added that she was uploading a stripped version of her Britney Spears-sampling song “Lucky” and that she was on her way to a PET scan. “This is the insane irony my life has become,” she added. “I’m a person. Not a character in a music video.”

In her “Lucky” video, which released last week, Halsey is depicted as a pop star struggling with her personal life and health while trying to keep things together onstage and in front of the camera. One poignant part of the video sees Halsey taking off a pink wig to show that she’s bald, and about to receive treatment for her medical issues.

Halsey’s forthcoming album is set to follow If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power, which she dropped in August 2021. She has yet to set an official release date for the new project, though it’s expected to arrive this year.
