Former Guns N’ Roses drummer Frank Ferrer expressed his “gratitude” after nearly 20 years drumming with the band, as well as his “disappointment that this chapter came to an end.”
GNR announced Ferrer’s departure from the band last week, describing the split as “amicable,” and adding, “The band thanks Frank for his friendship, creativity, and sturdy presence over the past 19 years, and they wish him success in the next chapter of his musical journey.”
Ferrer didn’t share a statement at the time, but posted one to Instagram over the weekend, writing, “The outpouring of love I have felt from the incredible fans of Guns N’ Roses and my peers over the past 24 hours has been tremendous. I will have immense gratitude and love always for Axl [Rose] and the band while at the same time, disappointment that this chapter came to an end.”
It’s unclear exactly why Guns N’ Roses and Ferrer decided to part ways. Ferrer has the distinction of being the longest-serving drummer in the band’s history, joining GNR in June 2006 and playing with them up through their last tour, which ended in November 2023.
Reflecting on this run, Ferrer said, “It has been an incredible 19 years. Guns N’ Roses has given me life-changing memories and experiences. A huge thanks to management, the crew, and fans for giving me memories that I will cherish for my lifetime. I hope I see you all again soon!”
After announcing Ferrer’s departure, Guns N’ Roses revealed that their new drummer would be Isaac Carpenter, who’s previously played with Awolnation, A Perfect Circle, and Duff McKagan’s Loaded. “Carpenter has made a name for himself by uniquely blending versatility and groove with crushing force and technical skill, cementing his reputation as a multifaceted drummer in the industry,” the band said.
Guns N’ Roses will return to the road with Carpenter this spring. Their Because What You Want and What You Get Are Two Completely Different Things Tour kicks off May 1 in Incheon, South Korea and continues through July with dates in Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.
