Grimes has responded to the online fervor after Elon Musk recently paraded their four-year-old son around the White House. Speaking to Time in a new interview about technology and AI, Grimes requested that people stop posting photos of her child publicly.

The singer was asked, “There were a lot of reactions online when you tweeted about your son X’s appearance in the Oval Office. What was your reaction to that moment?”

“It was like, ‘Grimes slams,’ ‘Grimes speaks out,’” she said. “It’s like, OK, it was a reply. But I would really like people to stop posting images of my kid everywhere. I think fame is something you should consent to. Obviously, things will just be what they are. But I would really, really appreciate that. I can only ask, so I’m just asking.”

Musk brought the former couple’s eldest child, X Æ A-Xii (or X for short), to the Oval Office earlier this month. At the time, Grimes tweeted in response to the many photos of the moment, “He should not be in public like this. I did not see this, thank u for alerting me. But I’m glad he was polite. Sigh.”

The following week, Grimes tweeted directly at Musk, saying, “Plz respond about our child’s medical crisis. I am sorry to do this publicly but it is no longer acceptable to ignore this situation. This requires immediate attention.” She added, “If you don’t want to talk to me can you please designate or hire someone who can so that we can move forward on solving this. This is urgent, Elon.”

That post has since been deleted and Grimes did not address it in her interview. She did respond to a question about her relationship with X, formerly Twitter, which Musk owns.

“I’ve actually been mostly off besides a couple days since the end of January or something,” Grimes said to Time. “It’s just where all the cutting-edge news is, and all my friends use it, and the AI stuff. And it’s good to keep track of the political stuff. Ultimately, I don’t know. I love to debate. I like getting in fights. They hate me less on Twitter than everywhere else.”

Musk and Grimes share three children. The pair waged a two-year custody battle over the kids that came to an end last August, though it’s not clear what the terms of their ultimate agreement were. Grimes’ request came just days after far-right influencer Ashley St. Clair claimed that she had recently given birth to another of Musk’s children, which would make her the fourth known woman to have at least one child by him. The baby would be the 13th known living child of Musk’s.
