Grace Cummings’ new single, “Times Like These”, is dedicated to those who need comfort and love ahead of the holiday season.
Joining the Australian singer-songwriter is guest vocalist Jim James of My Morning Jacket, whom Cummings met while touring earlier in the year.
Explaining James’s guest turn, Cummings said, “’Times Like These’ is for somebody that needs some comfort and some love. The holidays boast joy and happiness and celebration and togetherness but it’s one of the most lonely times I can think of. My friendship with Jim James has helped me to see some beautiful things in the world, and to be grateful for what I have.”
Cummings has been playing music since her high school days, though she was a drummer specialising in classic rock covers, a far cry from the haunting vocals you’ll hear in albums like Ramona — an album that saw her hailed as an Artist You Need to Know by Rolling Stone.

Her sound takes inspiration from the likes of Paul Kelly, Bob Dylan, and J Spaceman, plus the greats of Irish folk music she spent her childhood listening to. That influence is clear as day, resulting in a voice that Rolling Stone AU/NZ’ described as “utterly commanding.”

“2024 was a very good year. It’s the year that my third album, Ramona, was released and the year my band and I toured it around the world. My biggest achievement was being able to recognise how resilient I could be when I really needed to be. When ya get thrown in to the deep end, sometimes it’s hard not to get tired of treading water and drowning or ducking and weaving from the sharks,” she told us in an exclusive interview for Future of Music.
