Georgia Lines has released her first single of 2024 as she prepares for the release of her highly anticipated debut album.
“The Letter” is a heartfelt piano ballad that brings Lines’ songwriting skills to the fore. “Don’t read me a letter / Already know what it’s going to say,” she whispers wistfully before the song bursts into life, Lines’ voice crackling with emotion. It’s classic singer-songwriter fare, a song that feels deeply lived-in.
“I am so excited to finally share ‘The Letter’, the first track to be released from my debut album!” Lines shares. “Making this album has been such an incredible experience… pushing my creativity and musical capacity to the seams and I’m deeply proud of the body of work I’ve created.
“It’s pretty special finally getting to start sharing what I’ve been working on for the past two years. ‘The Letter’ was written on my first writing trip to Los Angeles at the end of 2022 and for me is one of the most special, honest and deeply personal songs I have ever written.”
The accompanying music video is worth a watch, a stunning one-shot creation that you can check out below. “Our idea was to craft a beautiful, simple, yet captivating visual representation that gave room for the song to take centre stage,” Lines explains.
“The Letter” will feature on Lines’ forthcoming debut album, The Rose of Jericho, which is set for release this June. Before that arrives, Lines’ popular music web series, INTROS, will be hosted on Rolling Stone AU/NZ for the first time this year.
Beginning this month, the new series of INTROS will feature Lines sitting down with her favourite female and non-binary artists for a relaxed kōrero. Each episode focuses on the artist’s chosen song, delving into the story behind the song and the process of writing, before the artist will treat viewers to a live performance.
Georgia Lines’ “The Letter” is out now. The Rose of Jericho is out June 7th.
