Gang of Youths have cancelled their New Zealand shows just hours before they were scheduled to appear on stage in Wellington.
The five-piece were booked to play at The Hunter Lounge, Wellington tonight and at Powerstation, Auckland tomorrow night.
While the band’s social media accounts haven’t yet made an official statement about the cancellation, Ticketek NZ and the event’s Facebook group have both confirmed the news.
“We regrettably advise the postponement of the Gang of Youths show tomorrow at Powerstation, Auckland”
A message from the band was also posted to the event’s Facebook page.
“To all of our beautiful fans in Aotearoa, we are absolutely gutted to announce that we will have to postpone the shows in Wellington & Auckland this week,” it begins.
“This has been a very very difficult decision to make, but one we collectively deem necessary to maintain the health of the band. We want you all to know that we haven’t made this decision lightly as we hate letting our fans down and know that a lot of you will be disappointed, for which we are really sorry.
“Our teams will be working hard over the coming weeks to find a way to get us back to Aotearoa soon. Please hold onto your tickets and we will share those details as soon as we know more. From the bottom of our hearts, we are so sorry, and hope to see you in Aotearoa again soon.
“We apologise for the inconvenience and will be in touch very soon with information regarding rescheduled dates!”
Gang of Youths wrapped their hugely successful Australian tour earlier this month. However, they are still scheduled to play Sandstone Point Hotel in QLD on August 20th and to perform an acoustic show at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on August 22nd.
