In a genre oft-defined by tradition, breakout alt-R&B artist Forest Claudette is writing their own rules. Today, Claudette drops their latest EP, & Stone Between, a three-track exploration that delves deep into the emotional and sonic complexities that have become their signature.
At the heart of this EP is the single “Press on Me,” a sultry, groove-heavy track full of both swagger and soul. Claudette, who penned the song alongside Rory Noble in New Zealand, reveals the track’s origins were rooted in a moment of personal longing. “I hadn’t seen my partner for a couple of months,” Claudette shares.
“Rory’s studio is so wonderful, so many instruments to play with and we really took advantage of that. I remember being excited to explore more free thought flowing lyrics and rhythms. Following a train of thought and trying to capture the overall feeling or energy rather than specific lyrics and a narrative. Although I think I found a way to have both.”
“Press on Me” isn’t the only gem on & Stone Between. The EP opens with the moving “Moonlight,” followed by the brooding “2AM,” before closing with the addictive and profound new single. Claudette’s vocals stand out across all three tracks, weaving intricate stories of love, longing, and life’s complexities.
“& Stone Between is a representation of the realities of life,” Claudette explains. “Just because you’re going on a journey or figuring out who you are, it doesn’t mean every other aspect of life stops.”
This latest release follows Claudette’s beloved Jupiter EP, which introduced fans to tracks like “Kobe Beef” and “Big Wigs,” and the critically acclaimed Everything Was Green EP. With & Stone Between, Claudette continues to carve out their own unique universe—one where love, identity, and empowerment coexist in a danceable, intimate soundscape.
The timing couldn’t be more perfect. Claudette is set to embark on a North American, European, and UK tour from September, fresh off their recent support of Omar Apollo on his Australian headline shows.
