Legendary New Zealand label Flying Nun is celebrating another stellar year by hosting a huge party in Tāmaki Makaurau this weekend.
Taking its name from the sublime 3DS song of the same name, ‘Beautiful Things’ is a wrap party for the end of the musical year.
Flying Nun has gathered several of their current roster, as well as some of the label’s favourite artists, for the occasion.
Across three stages – Whammy Bar, Whammy Backroom and Wine Cellar – nine excellent bands from across Aotearoa will perform on Saturday, November 26th. Times are staggered to give fans the best chance of seeing as many performances as possible.
Fresh from a national tour in support of their debut album, Plot Points, searing local post-punk band Soft Bait will be there, as will experimental group Vor-stellen.
Singer-songwriter Vera Allen will perform, a few weeks after winning Best Alternative Artist at the 2022 Aotearoa Music Awards.
The lineup also includes fledgling trio Half Hexagon, who will also be supporting the one and only Pavement when their tour comes to New Zealand next year.
“It’s unclear what the future holds for Yolanda Fagan, James Milne, and Julien Dyne as a trio, but they’d do well to stick together: debut single “Ism” is achingly cool, filled with atmospheric synths and tempting vocals,” Rolling Stone AU/NZ wrote about the group when previewing The Others Way.
Iconic indie pop outfit Voom, who just collaborated with Fazerdaze on their new single “Magic”, will end the night at Whammy Bar.
You can see the full lineup and find the set times for ‘Beautiful Things’ below. Tickets for the event are still available via undertheradar.
