FANGZ bite down on the ARIA Chart for a top 10 debut with Shui, the Sydney punk rock band’s first full-length album.
Independently released, Shui opens at No. 8, the hottest start for any title on the latest tally, published Friday, July 11th. It’s also the only homegrown release in the ARIA Top 50.
FANGZ are led by Josh Cottreau, who in 2023 attempted to crack a Guinness World Record for most hard-boiled eggs eaten in one sitting. They’re currently four shows deep into a 10-date tour. Thankfully, the frontman’s egg gorging is a thing of the past.
Shui is the only new release studio album on the current ARIA Albums Chart, one that’s led by the soundtrack to the Netflix hit KPop Demon Hunters. After three weeks, KPop Demon Hunters finally ascends to the top of the leaderboard, up 2-1.
KPop Demon Hunters becomes the first soundtrack from an animated film to reach the top in more than eight years, according to ARIA, and the first soundtrack to hit top spot since 2023, when Barbie The Album spent two weeks at the chart’s zenith. The collection swaps places with Lorde’s Virgin, which dips 1-2 in its second week.
Oasis fever is sweeping the UK, and its impact can be measured half a world away. The band’s greatest hits compilation, Time Flies… 1994-2009, a former leader in the UK, reenters the ARIA Chart at No. 50 and the Britpop-era heavyweights’ second album (What’s The Story) Morning Glory? is sitting just outside the top 50.
Noel and Liam Gallagher have buried the hatchet for the OASIS LIVE ’25 world tour, which has got underway in the British Isles and will visit Australia in October and November, for a run of dates produced by Live Nation.
