As Eskimo Joe gear up to face a big year head-on, the beloved WA trio have given fans a teaser of their forthcoming new single “99 Ways” ahead of its release next week.
Following on from their 2020 track “Say Something” (their first new single since 2013), Eskimo Joe are set to share “99 Ways” on February 12th, with frontman Kav Temperley describing the single as an “isolation love song”.
“I started writing this song in the first week of isolation when I was stuck in my bedroom with a bad fever,” Temperley explains in a statement. “We didn’t know what it was and as I’d just returned from the states, we thought it best to isolate me from the rest of the family – luckily i had a piano in my room!
“Isolation is something the whole world has had to go through, and it’s been tough but sometimes you can only understand what someone else is going through if you have been through it yourself.”
Alongside the track’s announcement, Eskimo Joe have also shared a 30-second teaser clip of the single, which was uploaded to their social media earlier today.
While “99 Ways” follows on from last year’s “Say Something”, it’s currently unclear whether or not the new tracks will appear on the band’s first album since 2013’s Wastelands, with Temperley telling Rolling Stone last year the band is unsure whether they’ll continue to write records, or simply deliver standalone singles.
“I still love albums, because most of my favourite songs are not the singles off the album,” Temperley explained. “I do think there’s something about going deeper into the work when you do a record. There’s always a whole lot of songs floating around, but it’s just the logistics of trying to get the three of us into a room at the same time.”
Eskimo Joe’s “99 Ways” is released on Friday, February 12th, with pre-saves available now.
