In July 2023, Elton John played the final stop of his farewell tour. But this fall, he’ll return to the stage in a big way for a couple of shows at Mexico City’s Estadio Banorte (a.k.a. Estadio Azteca). He’s billing the gig, his first time in Mexico City in 14 years, as his proper farewell to the city since the Covid-19 pandemic forced him to cancel a previous run of gigs there.

“Mexico City has always held a special place in my heart,” John said in a statement. “I was truly disappointed that the pandemic kept me from touring Latin America during my Farewell tour which makes this return especially meaningful. I’m thrilled to finally share this very special moment with my fans after all these years…”

Tickets will go on sale to the general public on July 16 with various presales preceding that date. Members of John’s Rocket Club can buy tickets on July 15; fans can join the club on the artist’s website

John played 330 shows on his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour over the course of five years, but the last time he was in Mexico City was 2012. The farewell tour’s supposed finale took place in Stockholm, where he ended the event singing “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.” He has played various one-off gigs since then and continued recording. When he announced the tour at a 2018 press conference, he promised “the most produced, fantastic show I’ve ever done.”

John’s most recent album, a collaboration with Brandi Carlile titled Who Believes in Angels? came out in 2025. But the artist is already teasing another. In May, while accepting an award in Toronto, John said that his new album would be “so happy.”
