Formerly the lead singer of alt-country band Eb & Sparrow, Ebony Lamb is branching out on her own with a debut solo album.
The self-titled record will be released in October via Slow Time Records (Nadia Reid, Anthonie Tonnon). It was made in collaboration with two of New Zealand’s finest modern musicians, Bic Runga and Kody Nielson (The Mint Chicks, UMO), as well as her long-time collaborator, Gram Antler.
To celebrate her album announcement, Lamb has today shared a striking third single from it, the elemental “Salt Sand Sea”. It’s a rustic slice of country-folk, Lamb’s thoughtful words spilling out of a voice imbued with the honey-soaked hue of an artist like Sharon Van Etten.
“It evokes ideas and values that carry a similar weight to the natural world,” Lamb says about the single. “The line “Give me some more” is about wanting depth of character. While we sway about in popular culture, the elements – the salt, the sand, the sea – remain steadfast.”
Well-known in this country as a photographer, the accompanying music video leans into the multi-hyphenate’s photographic prowess. Directed by Studio Elga, the clip was shot on location in Muritai and Pariwhero/Red Rocks in Wellington (watch below).
Lamb’s debut album will also feature previous singles “Take My Hands At Night” and “My Daughter My Sister My Son”. Following the release of the album, Lamb will embark on a national tour, stopping in Lyttelton, Dunedin, Wellington, Featherston, Napier, Auckland, and Paekākāriki (see full dates below). She has previously supported the likes of Marlon Williams, Runga, Tiny Ruins, and Lawrence Arabia.
Ebony Lamb’s “Salt Sand Sea” is out now. Her self-titled debut album is out October 20th via Slow Time Records (pre-save/pre-order here).
