Love can make you do crazy things. For Taylor Swift, it made her go on a sports podcast, New Heights, hosted by her now-fiancé Travis Kelce. For Donald Trump, it made him forget that he hates Swift and called her a “woke singer” who is “NO LONGER HOT” just three weeks ago. Reacting to the news of Swift and Kelce’s engagement, the president told reporters in a cabinet meeting that he wishes the couple “a lot of luck.”

His praise started with Kelce, noting, “I think he’s a great player, I think he’s a great guy.” Then, his amnesia settled in and all of the criticism he’s thrown at Swift — including celebrating her being “booed out of the Super Bowl,” the same one her boyfriend was playing in notably for the team that Trump was rooting for — suddenly left his mind. “And I think that she’s a terrific person,” he said. “So I wish them a lot of luck.”

Trump’s one-sided feud with Swift began in 2018, when she endorsed Democratic Senate candidate Phil Bredesen over Republican Marsha Blackburn in Tennessee. “I’m sure Taylor Swift knows nothing,” he said at the time. “I like Taylor’s music about 25 percent less now, OK?”

Kelce hasn’t spoken much about Trump publicly. Ahead of the Super Bowl in February, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end reacted to news that the president might attend the event, telling reporters, “That’s awesome. It’s a great honor. I think you know, no matter who the president is, I know I’m excited because it’s the biggest game of my life, you know, and having the president there — it’s the best country in the world — and that’s pretty cool.”

Last September, Trump expressed his preference for Brittany Mahomes, wife of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, over Swift. Maybe he thinks she’s going to suddenly start liking pro-MAGA posts on social media. Again, this is the same person who somehow believed that writing “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT” on Truth Social would, in fact, make other people hate the biggest pop star on the planet. “Has anyone noticed that, since I said ‘I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,’ she’s no longer ‘HOT?’” he asked in May. No one noticed, especially not Kelce.

When Swift appeared on Kelce’s New Heights podcast, the athlete gushed about her being “so hot when she says big words.” And when the couple announced their engagement, they set the post to The Tortured Poets Department song “So High School,” where she sings, “You know how to ball, I know Aristotle.” Their joint engagement post was fittingly captioned, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
