Don McGlashan will release his first-ever solo live album, Take It to the Bridge, on August 22nd.

The album captures his recent 23-date nationwide tour with special guest Christchurch instrumentalist Anita Clark (Motte). It will be available on limited edition 8-track black vinyl, a 13-track CD, and all digital platforms.

Take It to the Bridge showcases McGlashan’s storytelling and songwriting across songs from his solo career, The Mutton Birds, and The Front Lawn. Anita Clark’s violin and vocals add extra depth to the performances.

This is McGlashan’s first release since 2022’s Bright November Morning, which debuted at #1 on the Official NZ Album Charts. He’s already working on a new studio album, planned for 2026.

To celebrate the live album, McGlashan will play two special shows in August: a sold-out solo show in Nelson and a headline performance with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra (see full dates below).

Bright November Morning recently featured in Rolling Stone AU/NZ’s Best New Zealand Albums of the 2020s So Far, praised for proving McGlashan is still writing essential music decades into his career:

“A true Aotearoa music legend, Don McGlashan just keeps on going. The Blam Blam Blam and Mutton Birds frontman sounded as fresh as ever on his latest solo album, his first since Lucky Stars in 2015.

“It’s a difficult feat to sound this essential so deep into one’s long career — Jimmy Barnes and Robert Forster are Australian counterparts who have also managed to maintain such quality over many decades — and Bright November Morning is sprinkled with moments of classic McGlashan songwriting, capturing the nuances of life as only he can.”

Don McGlashan’s Take It to the Bridge is out August 22nd, pre-order here.
