Doja Cat has come to Chappell Roan‘s defence following the pop star’s recent encounter with paparazzi while in Paris, which has since gone viral. Doja shared her thoughts in a candid TikTok video where she also revealed her borderline personality disorder diagnosis (BPD).

“I love that she can be uncomfortable comfortably in front of people and protect herself and be honest,” Doja said. She went on to make a connection between “the way people are treating Chappell Roan for showing her discomfort” to the way Doja herself has often felt in dealing with her BPD. “I had to learn how to be honest,” the artist added. “I love that she can do that without hurting people. She hasn’t hurt one person by being herself, and that shows that I can do the same.”

Doja also agreed with Roan’s attitude toward the paparazzi. “To be like ‘fuck the paparazzi’ is the best way to be because fuck them,” she said in her video. The rapper went on to explain the culture behind paparazzi-adjacent resellers who “pose as fans and ask for signatures.” “I’m a person in this profession, I do this, there are people who are not fans that show up and they want you to sign stuff, and they go and they sell it wherever,” she said, pointing out that “artists aren’t just ignoring people because they’re full of themselves.”

She finished off her video by stating people should “let [Roan] have an attitude,” and that the incident inspired her: “I would love to have one as well, and I fucking will, hopefully in the future.”

Doja is the latest celebrity to come forth and defend Roan since footage of the incident caused a storm online. Earlier this week, songwriter Noah Kahan also posted a video on social media in support of the pop singer. “Maybe they should just leave her alone?” Kahan said. “Also those dudes saying, ‘I’m a huge fan,’ following her around are scalpers and are as bad as the paparazzi. Fuck ’em all.”
